Rainwater & wastewater harvesting is a sustainable way of water conservation and reducing the groundwater usage
In Kolkata, many residential projects are going on and many have been completed. As the number of people living in Kolkata is growing day by day, the requirements of water is also reaching the sky, especially in the areas with residential complexes. And most of the water in those residential areas comes from the ground by pumping the water out. The problem is, the amount of water we are sucking from the ground of that area is much higher than the amount of water going down into the ground as most of the used water is drained to another place. Rainwater is also drained to another place before entering into the deep soil. As a result, the groundwater level is dropping rapidly, causing the rise of arsenic level in the water.
To reduce the groundwater usage, rain & wastewater harvesting is a very good solution. Most of the rainwater & wastewater goes through the drainage system. If we can store the water after proper treatment and use them for normal usages like gardening, in the bathrooms, washing clothes etc then imagine how much groundwater we can save.
