Different Types of Hearing Aid Technology and Their History

Hearing Aids devices helps people with hearing problems a lot. Wearing a hearing aid device is the easiest way to ditch the hearing problems. Hearing aids were first introduced in 17th century. Since then it has come a long way. In the early age they were very different from what they are now, even they were not called hearing aids. That time it was called Ear Trumpets. And there was no electronic parts in those devices.

The first electronic hearing aid device was constructed after the invention of microphone and telephone in the 1870s and 1880s. The first electric hearing aid, called the Akouphone, was created by Miller Reese Hutchison in 1898. That time carbon transmitters were used to make the device portable.

The first hearing aid with vacuum tube were introduced in 1920 by Naval Engineer Earl Hanson. This devices used telephone transmitter to turn speech into electric signals.

Then comes the Transistor age. Vacuum tubes were replaced by them which made the devices smaller and more portable.

And at last comes digital hearing aid devices. Digital Hearing aid devices were introduced in the early 1960s. These devices have the feature of great portability. Introducing of integrated circuits helps manufacturers create small devices which can fit into the ear canal. And now they can have various features like Bluetooth, various audio adjustments for various situations etc.

A person can opt for any design of hearing aid device but before that he or she should check for hearing ability to determine the level of hearing loss. Because different hearing aid device needed for different intensity of hearing loss.
